One of our wonderful content strategists, Rozey, has reached out to our team of interns to discuss how working at Jezuba has inspired and challenged them!
Hear from our interns:
Rozey HillDigital Marketing Intern
Rozey has been interning with our team on the Digital Marketing team and is also studying american studies & statistics at Wellesley as a rising sophomore. Working with the marketing team, she has been organizing the content of one of the pages on our website as well as reviewing and editing some of the blog posts. Alongside this, Rozey has been planning a panel on the experiences of women of color in the workspace with Jezuba co-founder Iris. She will also be exploring the dynamics of Google Ad from a guide being crafted by another intern to employ in future projects in marketing.
One challenge she has been faced with is balancing her summer classwork with her internship work but throughout the weeks, she has tried to diligently schedule her time. This has allowed her to have defined time for Jezuba, which to her wholly & especially aids oft-forgotten underserved communities. |
In Rozey's own words:
“The individuals I have encountered & worked with this summer-- from my awesome fellow interns to the inspiring co-founders of Jezuba-- have left me with an impression of pure passion and will to affect positive change.” |
In Trinity's own words...
“Non-profit work means addressing inequity and injustices.” |
Trinity Chen
Robotics Program Manager
For our final intern spotlight, we will be touching on Trinity who works as our Robotics Program Manager and also is a rising senior at Evergreen Valley High School. She has an overwhelming love for STEM and is a captain of the robotics team at her school and, thus, wanted to lead an initiative with Jezuba in this field. One of the biggest challenges with this, though, has been having to persist in spite of issues with communication with other organizations & schools.
To Trinity, the lack of opportunities in STEM and, especially, robotics for people of color and other underrepresented communities has always been something that she is passionate to remedy. One means of remedying the issue has been Trinity offering to tutor and provide her expertise to robotics teams. Generally, to Trinity, non-profit work centers and focuses on one’s community and finding & addressing inequalities so that the process of unrooting injustice can transfer globally. |
How have our interns grown through working at Jezuba?
Check out our past weeks' spotlights, below, to learn more!
Sam Wolstenholme-Britt
Artists & Makers Program Manager
For our fifth intern spotlight, we’ll be focusing on Sam, our Artists & Makers Program Manager. Sam is a rising junior at Wellesley College and is majoring in American Studies as well as economics. As the program manager, she contacts a myriad of talented artists in efforts to collaborate and bring them into our team. Given that Sam coordinates with many artists, one difficulty has been time zones-- with one artist living in Malaysia with a 12-hour time difference. Through this challenge, she had to readjust her schedule frequently for our artists.
Working with Jezuba has allowed Sam to do valuable work with the artistic community, allowing her a concrete way to create positive change for more artists in her own way. Sam knows how important this is given the economic shutdown associated with COVID-19, as this crisis has especially negatively impacted independent artists. Through exploring the intricacies of the artistic experience and non-profit as a whole, she has developed an interest in economic empowerment and its importance in social justice. |
In Sam's own words:
“Nonprofit work should center the experiences of the people we advocate for.” |
In Emily's own words...
“I love how I know my work is generating impact for underserved communities, and how the products we sell are in partnership with artists that may have been having a hard time with sales during the pandemic.” |
Emily Huang
Web Developer & Content Strategist
Emily is on our operations team as one of our Web Developers & Content Strategists and she is vital in her work with the aesthetics as well as the structure of our website. She is also a rising sophomore at Wellesley College, majoring in economics and psychology. Working on our website has allowed Emily to explore content and operation from the view of a user so that she can determine what are the most accessible and articulate methods to get our message across. She has also been able to capitalize upon her Weebly skills, getting the best designs and structures for each of our website pages!
Maintaining our website, though, has also led to Emily perfecting her communication skills because she is constantly reaching out to other interns. Our website features current work and the newest updates whether it’s bringing artists onto our team or community collaborations and, thus, coordination with others is very important. All-in-all, her work with Jezuba has been especially inspiring because she knows she is directly and profoundly involved in helping a myriad of individuals-- in all different communities, places on the globe, and professions. |
In Jill's own words...
“I think it’s really important that what you do brings everyone forward and not just yourself.” |
Jill Murphy
Solar LED Program Manager
The first intern for our team that we will be spotlighting, Jill Murphy, is our Solar LED Program Manager, also studying astrophysics at Wellesley College. She responded that her experience with Jezuba has completely pushed her beyond her comfort zone, allowing her to build her own schedule and to build her confidence. Jill says that it “has been difficult at times,” but that this challenge has led her to reach out more and, in turn, solidify her relationships with the other interns.
Alongside this, Jill also says that her experience has allowed her to hone in a myriad of skills: fundraising, video editing and production, communication, and planning skills. Beyond these skills, Jill has also been exploring the intricacies of nonprofit work through her internship. She is excited to utilize these skills in different avenues in the future but also in the coming weeks with our organization! |
Talia O'SheaWeb Developer
For our second intern spotlight, we have the lovely Talia O’Shea. Talia is studying astrophysics and history at Wellesley College & is interning as Web Developer with Jezuba. For Talia, nonprofits are the means through which social, economic, and/or political support is provided when government falls short. To her, nonprofits and the people working within them are the embodiment of “generous, compassionate, and engaged” and Jezuba - and the people she have met here - fit this ideal.
Talia also mentions how important communication and interpersonal skills have been in her work and how this internship has allowed her to refine those skills. She has been challenged, though, by learning how to best balance her work with Jezuba with her other summer obligations, but she has strove to learn from this experience how to more clearly set dedicated hours for individual tasks. |
In Talia's own words...
“Just in terms of personal development for all of us involved with nonprofit work, I think seeking out and building the kind of community that a place like Jezuba can build is incredibly meaningful.” |
Kristine HuynhOutreach Manager
Kristine works with Jezuba as our Outreach Manager and has recently graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in sociology. Her efforts have enabled Jezuba to forge connections and relationships with other organizations, such as KinOn, that have been especially necessary due to Covid-19. Kristine works incredibly hard but one of her greatest challenges has been communicating with her peers for help.
Creativity, though, is at the heart of everything Kristine does and she has been able to hone in on this skill through Jezuba-- thinking up different events with a myriad of organizations as well as planning these events and creating beautiful posters to get the word out. |
In Kristine's own words...
“Being a part of Jezuba, I have a safe haven where I can let my creativity shine and share my passion for social justice.” |
In Paige's own words...
“Nonprofit, to me, means selflessness, you’re able to give something meaningful without expecting much in return.” |
Paige AndersonDigital Marketing Intern
Highlighting our fourth intern, Paige is an intern on our Digital Marketing Team and has recently graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in economics. Specifically, Paige works on social media--from our Instagram & Twitter to our Linkedin-- for Jezuba. One challenge with social media for her has been figuring out which posts will be the most popular and generate the most likes so that she can post similar content in the future. Learning the intricacies of the algorithm is allowing her to post content better curated for our followers.
For Paige, her work with Jezuba has allowed her to capitalize on her love of expressing her creativity, curating her own posts without any strict supervision. Not only is she able to create her own captions but she is also able to choose and edit the photos associated with Jezuba’s posts. Through tailoring our social media, she collaborates with other interns, ensuring that all of our efforts are also being promoted. |
